Google Ads call assets can add a phone option to eligible ads, but Google says assets are not guaranteed to show on every impression. With call reporting, eligible calls can use a Google forwarding number so the account can report details such as duration and missed or received status. A call conversion can use a duration threshold, but duration alone does not prove quality or a sale.

VISUAL LESSON

What you will learn

  1. 01Configure and test a call asset.
  2. 02Understand call reporting and conversion settings.
  3. 03Reconcile calls with qualified outcomes.
A search ad phone asset routes through reporting, call handling, qualification, and value checkpoints
Call measurement becomes useful when the ad interaction, phone connection, disposition, and business outcome remain distinct.

PRACTICAL INTERFACE MAP

Build and verify the call path

Asset01Add number, scope, and schedule

Choose account, campaign, or ad-group use; verify country, phone, business identity, schedule, and policy eligibility.

Reporting02Enable and define measurement

Turn on call reporting where supported, inspect forwarding behavior, choose the correct conversion action, and document duration threshold.

Quality03Reconcile disposition and value

Connect call details with answered, missed, spam, qualified, booked, sold, and value outcomes after an appropriate maturity window.

THE LEAD ATLAS METHOD

Lead Atlas Data can research a campaign-specific business-contact list for selected categories, markets, and locations, complementing inbound call ads with a separately governed outbound cohort.See how custom list research works ↗
01

Define the call's job

Write the campaign, customer problem, eligible geography, operating hours, expected caller intent, phone owner, service-level target, qualification rule, conversion action, and value path. Decide whether the asset supports urgent response, consultation, booking, quote, or another specific task.

Confirm the business can answer and record dispositions during scheduled periods. An unanswered call campaign can create cost and frustration even when the asset is technically correct.

02

Create the call asset

In the current Google Ads Assets area, add or edit a call asset at the intended account, campaign, or ad-group level. Enter the correct country and number, check policy and verification requirements, choose device preference where available, and set an asset schedule that reflects staffing.

Google says assets are selected by its system and may not show on every impression. Do not interpret a missing phone option on one preview as proof of failure; inspect eligibility, approval, level, schedule, ad rank, and actual reporting.

03

Configure call reporting

Enable call reporting where available and understand whether a Google forwarding number is used. Preserve the account and regional availability, conversion settings, attribution, minimum call-length threshold, count setting, and reporting time zone.

Keep phone calls, call interactions, and call conversions distinct. A duration-based conversion is a rule indicating that a call lasted long enough; it does not verify caller fit, conversation quality, appointment, or revenue.

04

Test routing and operational states

Use a representative eligible query and device when practical, then verify displayed number behavior, forwarding, caller connection, interactive menu, queue, recording or consent notices where applicable, voicemail, missed-call alert, CRM record, and after-hours state.

Use labeled test calls and exclude them from performance analysis. Confirm local requirements, privacy notices, call-recording rules, data retention, and access controls with the organization's appropriate advisors.

05

Reconcile platform and business evidence

Review impressions, asset interactions, calls, received and missed status, start time, duration, conversion, cost, and available call details. Join them to unique callers where policy permits, valid inquiry, qualified status, booking, sale, value, spam, and complaint outcomes.

Deliverable: call brief, approved number, level and schedule map, policy status, reporting setting, forwarding test, duration-conversion rule, labeled test log, routing and voicemail QA, call-detail export, CRM disposition map, qualified-call scorecard, value reconciliation, staffing review, and optimization decision.

THE TAKEAWAY

Configure the correct number and schedule, verify the forwarding and routing path, distinguish calls from conversions, and join call records to disposition and value before judging performance.
