Record the video's publication date, traffic sources, audience, geography, format, length, promise, thumbnail and title, chapters, paid promotion, and business objective. Wait for the report to process; YouTube says retention data typically takes one to two days.
Choose a stable date range and note whether new versus returning viewers, subscribers versus nonsubscribers, or organic versus paid sources create materially different cohorts. Avoid comparing a short tutorial and a long interview as if format did not matter.
Read the intro as a promise check

Change one major element per comparable test when possible. Preserve the original title, thumbnail, script, timeline annotations, and edit decision so the next result can answer a real question.
